The CIPAC will be presence at the International Conference on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage through the participation of Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Torres and the researcher Dr. Samila Ferreira. The event will take place from June 17 to 19, 2019 at Les Ateliers des Capucins in the city of Brest, France. It will focus on issues of ratification and implementation of the Convention, discuss the future of the protection of underwater cultural heritage and also of the law of the sea.
The conference will allow state delegations to fully understand the implications and advantages of the 2001 Convention. Practical sessions and excursions to the ocean will be part of the event, as well as operational presentations of underwater archeology in situ, which will allow delegates to fully appreciate the importance of the submerged heritage and its needs.
The conference will begin with a celebration opening and will then allow statements by UNESCO delegations, in-depth discussions on the 2001 Convention and the law of the sea, research issues and the situation of underwater heritage in the various regions. Interpretation in English and French will be guaranteed throughout the event. The event will be accompanied by exits and parallel events oriented to practice.
The conference is organized upon an invitation of the French government and immediately follows the Meeting of the States Parties to the 2001 Convention and the meeting of its Scientific and Technical Advisory Body (STAB).
The participation of CIPAC in the conference was an invitation from the French government and the funding was from the Mobility and Exchanges Academic Program (CSIC / UdelaR) and the French government.
