The Underwater Archaeology Program (PAS) has been the pioneer, in the Uruguayan academic scope, to develop research in Underwater Archaeology, Archaeology and Maritime Anthropology. In this context, the PAS has had a continuous concern about the professional training in this field, being in evidence since the 2000’s on the implementation of five field school seasons. The objective is to combine the theoretical and methodological knowledge and specific techniques on the issues involved.
The field school experiences seek, at each opportunity, to develop new activities and modalities for the archaeological work, with practices of registration, planimetry and systematization of data in the swimming pool. In addition, direct prospecting is carried out in open waters of zero or reduced visibility, and indirect prospecting with remote sensors on board.
